ULTRAVIOLET STERILISER'S

Ultraviolet radiation at a wavelength of 254 nanometers is extremely effective in halting the reproduction of algae. The algae readily absorbs the UV light which damages its DNA structure and makes it flocculate (clump together ) allowing it to be trapped in a mechanical filter. At the heart of each UV unit is an ultraviolet lamp sealed inside a quartz sleeve. As water is pumped through the unit, ultraviolet light from the lamp destroys the green, single-celled water borne algae (which make garden ponds murky and unattractive), leaving the water crystal clear.

UV6 for ponds of up to 600 imp gallons (2700 litres) with a maximum flow rate of 300 imp gallons (1365 litres) per hour.

UV8 for ponds of up to 1200 imp gallons (5450 litres) with a maximum flow rate of 500 imp gallons (2275 litres) per hour.

UV15 for ponds of up to 3000 imp gallons (13650 litres) with a maximum flow rate of 750 imp gallons (3400 litres) per hour.

Guide to choosing the correct unit

The main factors which govern the model you will need are pond size, flow rate, stocking level and the amount of sunlight the pond is subject to. Use the table below to select the correct model for your pond.

Simple to install, easy to use

Fitting a Pond Clear UV unit is very simple. The unit is connected into the water circulation system as shown below and connected to a mains electricity supply in the same way as fitting a plug.

The units require virtually no maintenance and the unique, translucent hose connectors glow to show that the UV lamp is working. They also feature a "date slide" which acts as a useful reminder for UV lamp replacement

Important Safety Information - Please read carefully

  • Never look directly at an illuminated UV lamp.

  • Do not run this unit dry. Do not cover this unit

  • Always isolate the unit from the mains electricity and turn off the water supply before carrying out any maintenance.

  • Always disconnect all pond appliances from the mains supply before putting your hands into the water

  • Use in the area of the garden pond only if the installation complies with the relevant wiring regulations.

  • We strongly recommend the use of an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB).

  • This unit must be earthed. Never use a fuse larger than 3 amps.

  • Rating: 220-240V, 50Hz. UV6, 10-12 watt. UV8, 11-13 watt. UV15, 21-24 watt. UV25, 23-27 watt. Class 1. IP44.

  • The unit must not be submerged in water

  • Do not cover the unit.

  • If the quartz sleeve is cracked, replace it immediately. Young child warning logo

  • The unit must be either fully frost protected or taken inside during the winter months.

  • Young children should always be supervised near water.

The unit is designed to be positioned either on its base on a flat surface, or attached horizontally to a vertical surface using the brackets provided, and is supplied with dual inlet/outlet fittings allowing the unit to be fitted in the most convenient position available

Mounting on a horizontal surface

If the unit is to be mounted on a flat surface the supplied blanking caps should be screwed into the two lower inlets/outlets as shown in the diagram below.

The two universal hosetails should then be screwed into the other inlet/outlet at either end of the unit. Hosetails should be tightened using hand pressure only. The blanking caps should be inserted and also only tightened by hand . Ensure that the "O" rings are in position before assembling. Do not use jointing compound or PTFE tape. Please note that there is no correct flow direction through the unit. Either end of the unit may be used as the inlet or outlet. However, the flow must be from one end of the unit to the other to ensure correct operation, and the two blanking caps should be fitted to the inlet and outlet not being used.

Mounting on a vertical wall

The unit may be mounted horizontally onto a vertical wall using the mounting brackets included (see diagram below). The 8 screws provided are suitable for fixing the brackets to a wooden surface. You should ensure that the unit is the correct way round with the wall spacers positioned at the back of the unit so that the unit sits securely. The water connections may be made in either of the inlets/outlets on the bottom of the unit, the ends of the unit, or a combination of both (see below). Please note that there is no correct flow direction through the unit. Either end of the unit may be used as the inlet or outlet.
